Piano lessons for children with learning difficulties

 

Hello, my name is Aly, a piano teacher based in St. John's Wood London NW8.

 

I specialise in beginner's piano lessons for children and have many years of experience teaching children with specific learning difficulties including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I am now able to offer these lessons to your child, at your home in the local NW8 area. I do have a long waiting list, but feel free to check availability.

 

Pupils of all abilities can benefit, including children with dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language delays, social and communication difficulties, HFA (High-Functioning Autism), ADHD, pathological demand avoidance (PDA) or with some physical disabilities. Although Asbergers Syndrome is a less used term, we recognise that some still identify with this, and these kids can really benefit.

 

Children really enjoy my lessons, and eagerly look forward to them each week. I use rewards, merits, stickers, and play games to keep their attention. Progress is often measured in small but rewarding steps. Importantly, there is no pressure on them to stress about exams. If you want them to acquire bits of paper, I am probably not the right person for your child.

 

The piano lessons are usually in your own home so that your child feels most at ease. We may be able to teach at your child's school, by arrangement with the Head Teacher or SEN co-ordinator, and subject to minimum numbers.

 

​Sessions are 30 minutes to one hour depending on the student, which may include piano playing and concentration/ learning games, and can complement any music therapy sessions your child has currently. The session can sometimes be shared with a sibling.
